Gel Polish causes Cancer?
Listen, I am far from a medical professional. I do not give any medical advice. But from my readings, there are certain ingredients that over time can contribute to cancer. Not all gel polishes have this ingredient. Trimethylbenzoyl diphenylphosphine oxide (TPO) is the chemical ingredient that has been classified as a carcinogenic. TPO is a photoinitiator that absorbs the UV or LED light to help cure the gel polish under the light. The cancer findings were based on animal testing… the animals were fed a high doses of this ingredient . We as humans do not ingest the gel polish ingredient . We are only exposed to it topically. So the risk is not comparable to the way humans use gel polish.
Moving on, Gel Polish brands are moving in a “healthier direction.” They are now marketing HEMA & TPO free GEL Polish . HEMA is hydroxyethyl methacrylate. It is a common ingredient in gel polish and acrylic products. HEMA is said to help with adhesion but when absorbed into the nail, can cause irritation. And theyve also done away with the TPO ingredient.
So if you’re concerned about irritation, allergies, cancer and such, look for TPO& Hema free products. I think Aprés just restructured their gel polish line to be TPO & Hema free.
But what about the UV Lamps? Lets talk about it here > UV LAMPS vs. Cancer
